Compliance
Health, Safety & Environment
When it comes to health, safety, and the environment, Dupree, Inc., including its Stake Fastener Co. division, holds itself to the highest standards of accountability. We believe that running a safe and clean company is the responsibility of each individual employee as well as the Company as a corporate citizen.
Conducting our business in compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental laws is therefore the baseline of performance. We aim to achieve a safer and more healthful workplace, while also minimizing all impacts to the environment. It is a matter of first importance to apply best practices to our undertakings, from the actual manufacture of our products to the recycling of materials to the disposal of wastes.
At Stake Fastener Co., we realize that our obligation to act responsibly extends to our employees, our customers, our neighbors, the community at large, and the environment generally. It’s a core Company value, and we seek to advance it every day.
Conflict Minerals
In 2010 Congress passed the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (the “Act”). Section 1502 of the Act amends the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934 to require certain companies to make disclosures concerning their use of “conflict minerals”. “Conflict minerals” means columbite-tantalite (coltan), cassiterite, gold, wolframite, or their derivatives or any other mineral determined by the Secretary of State to be financing conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo or an adjoining country.
A company “uses” a conflict mineral when it is “necessary to the functionality or production of a product.” Stake Fastener Co. does not use conflict minerals.
Nevertheless, Stake Fastener Co. is mindful of the fact that many of its customers are subject to the disclosure requirements of Section 1502. Should a case arise in which a customer’s requirements necessitate the use of conflict minerals, Stake Fastener Co. has the capacity to track its sourcing and assist the customer in conducting a reasonable, good faith inquiry necessary to a full and proper disclosure in compliance with the Act.
Other Regulatory Compliance
We realize that many of our customers are subject to special regulatory requirements, both within and outside the U.S. Customers whose products are bound for Europe may be subject to rules and regulations promulgated by the European Chemical Agency, such as REACH, which governs the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of chemicals, or RoHS, which restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Our defense industry customers are subject to DFARS, the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement.
Stake Fastener Co. has the expertise and experience to navigate these rules and regulations. In providing our customers with the products they need, we also work with them hand-in-hand to help them fulfill their regulatory obligations.
